The Synergy of Sustainability and Social Responsibility

Present day, the connection between sustainability and social responsibility is an important factor for business success. In this blog, we will talk about the relationship between these two values and how companies can leverage using each of them for profit and a positive impact on the community.

Defining Sustainability and Social Responsibility:

Sustainability, defined as the responsible management of resources to meet current needs without compromising the ability of future generations, has emerged as a cornerstone of ethical business practices. Simultaneously, social responsibility, encompassing a commitment to benefit society, addresses the impact of business activities on various stakeholders.

Environmental Corporate Citizenship:

Companies using sustainable practices inherently do good for humanity. The most impoverished people in the world are the ones that live in the areas with the majority of pollution, and climate change.

As the Harvard Business Review highlighted, "Sustainability is no longer just a compliance or risk mitigation measure; it’s a way for companies to drive business value while contributing to the greater good. Aligning social responsibility goals, by providing supplies to people in need, and helping clean up local communities enhances companies’ positive impact outside of just providing opportunities for employment.

How is SUS going to practice both sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility?

The way SUS is going to help our local communities is by running our very first bag and backpack drive on Small Business Saturday. How does the drive work and where is the drive taking place?

Bring old/unused bags or backpacks to donate to someone in need, or get your damaged bag/backpack repaired. To give you some extra incentive we will provide a discount on all of our products for anyone who donates to the cause.

In simplified terms:

Donate a bag/backpack = help someone in need + you receive a discount on SUS products

If you can’t separate from your damaged bag or backpack, we can get it repaired so you can use it again!

The drive will be held at Unpacked Living, located at 156 Cabot Street, Beverly, MA on 11/25/23 from 11-3 pm.
